That for which I am thankful

  • Spanx
  • Sleep-away camp.  It is a gift from God.
  • The pharmaceutical industry.  Particularly those companies that manufacture mood-enhancing drugs, aka "Mommy's Little Helper."
  • Mangoes
  • Sarah Palin and Levi Johnston, for hours and hours of entertainment.
  • The Real Housewives series.  For reminding me how lucky I am to be a brunette, modest, invisible and well-behaved in public.
  • The 50% of the time that the cats throw up in the kitchen or on a wood floor rather than on the carpet.
  • Days when I don't get phone calls from school, medical labs that track orphan diseases, NJ Energy Plus, an alumni association or the pervert down the road.  It happened once -- I remember it fondly.
  • Four-way stop signs.   Of all traffic indicators, they are the best, don't you think?
  • My Body of Work fanFans.  The vagrant who once stumbled upon my blog on the way to Dooce.com.  Example of a really SUCCESSFUL blog

  1. I've only recently discovered Spanx. I put it off for some time fearing that it would just push the fat up above my waistline, like a giant third breast. They don't make bras for a trifecta of mammaries.

  2. You're right, Karla, they don't and what a wonderful new product idea for this holiday season! I bet they would make great stocking stuffers. Do you think you could have a prototype ready in time for Friday morning's "door-busty" specials?

  5. @Snoopydog -- it's like watching a blonde, heavily cleavaged trainwreck.

  7. Joan, I don't even think they know it's a comedy show! Although some times it's a horror show too! :)

  8. I grew up with a mango tree in my backyard...I used to run home from school, straight to the backyard and pick the biggest red/orange/yellow orb I could reach. I used my teeth to break the peel and then pulled the peel down away from the juicy insides. Then I would take the biggest bite I could manage all the while juice running down my face and hands. If sleep away camp is a gift from God, mangoes are her way of showing off. Btw...late May is mango season in Hawaii...if you ever plan a trip there, plan to go then.

Thanks for the trip down mango lane.

  9. @Darcie -- I had mango pie last summer. It was heavenly -- when made by someone else. When I tried to make it, it didn't work. Mangoes are delicious and I like to through in references to them to see if anyone is paying attention.

  11. I like your list and I am grateful for:

The fact that my basement apartment has a million dollar view.

That I can still see my feet over my belly.

That they put spandex in jeans.

That every once in a while I take the stairs 2 at a time and it surprises me.

That Bristl Palin didn't win Dancing with the Stars.

That there is a high fence between me and the pit-bull next door.

That I can still eat spicy foods.

But unlike you, I like Yield signs better- it adds a component of 'chicken' that makes life more exciting...
